premise

You've come to Camp Evergreen, to enjoy the finest camping site in the country.

Upon your arrival, your friendly park ranger will welcome you warmly to the camp, as well as give you a standard briefing.

You've come prepared, with all your essential camping gear. Maybe you came along, ready to meet new people and have a relaxing weekend. Or maybe you're here with friends, to have an exciting week of hiking and swimming in the gorgeous lake.

Either way, there will be no leaving for you. Not any time soon.

the game

Your characters have come to a camp ground by the name of Camp Evergreen. It looks as typical as any camp may be, with luscious green trees and field, and sparkling water in the clean and fresh lake. Cabins with bunk beds, for those who wish, and field space for those who'd rather brave the wild in a tent.

However, by the end of the day, strange things may begin to stand out. There are no staff, only a solitary park ranger. She seems friendly enough, but seems to keep to herself unless directly spoken to.

It's the second day where the nightmare begin.

A body is found, murdered, and suddenly, the camp no longer seems so inviting.

Some of those the characters knew the day before, are no longer who they seem to be. They will have to utilize the best of their ability and intelligence to find the Vengeful among them before they are all brutally murdered. No one can leave. No one can hide. All you can do is kill them, before they kill you.

The Ranger, with her ever present smile, remains undisturbed and always willing to answer questions. Whether the answers are useful or not, remain up to you.

faq

How does this game work?

This is based on the party game, Mafia. There are two sides, the Campers and the Vengeful. During the day, there will be a Day post, where all characters can mingle throughout the camp, and discuss what's happening, and who they suspect may be Vengeful. Throughout the day, people must cast their votes

During the evening, the Campers will be ushered into their cabins and fall into a deep sleep, from which they won't wake up until morning.

Meanwhile, the Vengeful will come together and discuss what they want to do. Who they want to kill, how they intend to act in the upcoming day, who they will vote for in the lynching. There will be a post filtered only to the characters who are Vengeful, and only they will be able to see its contents.

Come morning, in the Day post, everyone will find out who was killed, and the cycle begins anew.

What roles are there?

Campers
The innocent, who have no idea what's going on, but they know they need to get their shit together and try to make it out of this alive. The only person they can be certain of is themselves. Anyone else could be Vengeful. Their role is to cast votes in the lynching, and discuss with the other characters.

How to win: successfully lynch all the Vengeful.

Detective
One camper will be woken up their first night, by the Ranger, who looks curiously grim. They must pick one person each night to investigate, and they will be told of that person's allegiance. Whether they are innocent, or Vengeful. If the Detective does not choose someone to investigate by the deadline, they will not have investigated anyone.

How to win: successfully lynch all the Vengeful.

Doctor
One camper will be woken up their first night, by the Ranger, who looks curiously grim. They must pick one person each night to save. If the Vengeful have chosen that person to die that night, that person will not die. The Doctor may choose to save themself. If the Doctor does not choose someone to save by the deadline, they will automatically save themself.

How to win: successfully lynch all the Vengeful.

Vengeful
Certain campers no longer remain truly themselves, as the first night falls. They are now guided by an unknown force, to desire and carry out the death of their former fellow campers. Their role during the day is to pretend they are a camper, and try to convince people to lynch innocents. During the night, they discuss with fellow Vengeful and vote on a person to kill.

How to win: when the Vengeful outnumber the Campers.

Tell me more about voting procedure?

Lynching - Day
Throughout the day, there will be a Day Vote post, with comments screened. Characters will comment to this with their vote for the lynching. At the end of the day, after voting closes, there will be a new comment to the Day post, where the characters will find out who was lynched and their allegiance. If you do not submit your vote in time, it will be randomized by the RNG. There will be no 'pass' allowed.

Vengeful - Night
The Vengeful will have their own post at night, filtered so only they will be able to see it. In here, they can discuss among themselves what they plan to do, and who they kill. They must then cast their vote for who they want to kill. The majority rules, so if there is internal discord, best coax the majority out of your fellow Vengeful! If you do not cast your vote in time, the majority will win.

So where can I go?

The campground includes a number of cabins, a grassy field, a lake, some picnic tables around a firepit, the forest and the Ranger Cabin. Not all locations will always be accessible, depending on how creative the Vengeful get with their methods of death, but the Day post will always give a brief description of what areas are available.

There will usually be a subthread on the Day post for the Ranger Cabin, where characters can go see the Ranger and ask her questions.

So if I get killed off, that's it?

Not exactly.

Even in death, the Vengeful want the Dead to witness the slow, methodical massacre of their fellow campers in life. So they linger, and can see everything that goes on during the day. The catch? They can only communicate with other Dead, or the Ranger.

Why the Ranger, you ask? Because she makes one thing certain, even if not her history or why she doesn't help the campers. A Dead character may come up to her once a night, and give her a name. If that name is the name of someone who is Vengeful, they may be permitted to come back to life. However, they would retain no memories of their time Dead, and as such, not be able to use any information gathered while they were Dead.

If they give the wrong name, then the Ranger will lose patience to listen to their unwarranted accusations again. Meaning, if on Night 1, your character guesses someone who is innocent, they will have to wait until Night 3 to guess again.

If more than one character guesses the correct name on the same night, the RNG will decide who gets to come back to life. After someone Dead is brought back to life, the Ranger will not bring another back for 2 Nights. If Character A is brought back to life on Day 3, then no Dead characters can present the Ranger with a name until Night 4.

This, of course, only applies to Campers. And Campers who have special abilities, such as the Detective or the Doctor, will lose their ability upon death. They would come back as an ordinary Camper.

Wait, so what's this Vengeful stuff?

To make the game a bit more interesting, the Vengeful will find out upon becoming Vengeful. The Campers will gradually gain a better picture over the course of the game. The Ranger may just be willing to divulge some information, if you catch her in a good mood.

Let's just say, this camp has a not-so-nice history behind it...

What's the ratio of IC to RL?

1 IC day = 3 RL days
1 IC night = 2 RL days

Voting for the lynching will be due by the end of the 2nd RL day, and characters will find out who was lynched on the 3rd RL day.

What format is the game in?

Commentspam, for the sake of moving the pace along.

What about powers/weapons?

Powers and weapons will be gone. The only weapon on the grounds will be the shotgun the Ranger keeps locked up, nice and secure, in her Cabin. Someone has to take care of the lynching, after all.

Great, how do I join?

Just make your way over to the application post here.

I have more questions!

Application

STATUS: CLOSED.

Due to the nature of the game and for reasons that will become apparent later on, characters under the age of 13 will not be accepted, unless you believe there to be extenuating circumstances. In this case, you may present your argument to the mod account. Generally, as there will be a great deal of gore and pretty dark material, it is ill-advised.

Otherwise, this is pretty much an open application process, barring any major issues with your application. Comments are unscreened, and as such, application challenges will not be accepted. First come, first serve.

GUIDELINES

1. You may only apply for one character. This is to maintain the secrecy of roles as much as possible.

2. Please try to make sure you can be active during the time the game will be running. This is a moderate-paced game that doesn't leave a whole lot of room for extensive backtagging. This is especially important, in the event you are granted one of the special roles.

3. While we can't prohibit you from spilling juicy details about your character's role, the game would be much more fun if people didn't know. ICly, of course, your character may shout their allegiance from the rooftops, but remember, the Vengeful are always listening...
